Thank you for a year of Bronx Frontlines.
On February 1, 2023 I launched Bronx Frontlines.
In December 2022, my partner suggested, as he had many times that year, that I start a Substack. I am extremely glad I listened.
This project has allowed me to do many things. I am growing as a writer and student; learning more about the Bronx and Dominican and Haitian resistance history. For the last year, I have written about Dominican migration, displacement, and New York City. My first essay here was “Welcome to Bronx Frontlines—stories from the Dominican diaspora.”
I am talking and have talked with my family, community members, and other writers to better understand how to tell our stories. Which stories to share with the world and which stories to share only with our sisters, mothers, and families.
Every day I write and think about migration, displacement, the labor of Dominican women. The way we change and grow, the way we heal and love and distance ourselves while surviving under and outside of empire.
I am so proud that I get to write this newsletter.
Thank you to everyone who subscribes and shares my posts. Thank you to everyone who pays for Bronx Frontlines. Because of you, I will be able to start featuring the voices of other writers as part of this project.
Stay tuned for year two.
